Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Do not force the door open as this can damage the latch and front panel.

Manual release: Access the door lock area by removing the lower front panel or pulling back the door gasket. Many KitchenAid locks have a manual release tab or pull cord; gently pull to mechanically unlock the door.
Inspect lock assembly: Once the door is open, remove the lock assembly and check for signs of overheating, broken plastic parts, or corrosion.
Check wiring: Verify the harness connector is tight and wires are not broken or pinched.
Test lock electrically: Use a multimeter to check the lock coil resistance and switch contacts. If the coil is open or the switch does not change state, replace the door lock assembly.
Control check: If a new lock does not resolve F23, the main control may not be sending the unlock signal and could require replacement.

Door remains locked at end of cycle; F23 may be displayed and the door cannot be opened.
