Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer, loose tachometer wiring, defective drive motor, control board speed sensing fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the motor area.
- Access motor and tachometer: Remove the rear panel. Locate the drive motor; the tachometer is typically integrated at the rear of the motor with a small harness.
- Inspect wiring: Check the tachometer connector and wires for damage or looseness. Reseat the connector.
- Test tachometer: With the motor removed or disconnected, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals. Compare to service specs. If open or shorted, replace the motor assembly (tach is usually not sold separately).
- Check drum movement: Spin the drum by hand to ensure it rotates freely. Binding bearings or a seized tub can cause speed errors.
- Control board: If motor and tach test good, the main control’s speed sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement.
