Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt (if belt-driven), failed drive motor, seized drum bearings, faulty motor control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the rear panel.
- Check belt (if equipped): Remove the rear panel and inspect the drive belt between the motor and drum pulley. If broken or off the pulley, replace the belt and check for pulley damage.
- Spin drum by hand: If the drum is hard to turn, suspect bearing or mechanical seizure. Address bearing issues before replacing belts or motors.
- Test motor: With the belt removed, run a diagnostic spin test (if safe) or bench-test the motor for operation. Replace the motor if it hums but does not turn or tests open on windings.
- Inspect motor control: If motor and belt are good but the drum still does not turn, the motor control or main control board may be faulty and require replacement.
