Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow tray ready.

• Step 1 – Access drain filter: Open the lower front service flap. Place a tray under the filter cap. Slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain out in a controlled way.
• Step 2 – Clean filter and pump: Remove the filter completely and clear out coins, lint, buttons, and other debris. Reach into the pump housing and carefully feel for obstructions around the impeller. The impeller should turn freely with slight resistance.
• Step 3 – Check drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush through with water to ensure it is clear.
• Step 4 – Test drain function: Refit the filter securely, reconnect the hose, restore power, and run a drain or spin-only program. Listen for the pump running. If it hums but does not move water, the impeller may be jammed or the pump worn.
• Step 5 – Electrical test of pump: With the machine unplugged, access the pump from the rear or bottom (depending on model). Check the wiring connector. Use a multimeter to test the pump motor coil for continuity. An open circuit or burnt smell indicates a failed pump that must be replaced.
• Step 6 – Control board check: If the pump tests good but never receives voltage during drain, the main control PCB or wiring harness may be faulty. This typically requires professional diagnosis.
