Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Worn motor brushes (on brushed motor), Seized drum bearings, Faulty motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the rear panel or motor.
- Step 1 – Check belt: Remove the rear panel and inspect the drive belt between the motor and drum pulley. If off or broken, fit a new belt of the correct size and tension.
- Step 2 – Spin drum by hand: If the drum is very stiff or noisy, the bearings may be seized. Bearing replacement is a major repair and often requires tub replacement.
- Step 3 – Motor brushes: On models with carbon brushes, remove and inspect them. Replace if worn short or uneven.
- Step 4 – Motor test: If belt and brushes are fine, test the motor windings with a multimeter. Replace the motor if open circuit or shorted.
