Possible Causes
Failed dryer thermistor, Open or shorted thermistor wiring, Thermistor dislodged from mounting bracket, Faulty main control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal dryer components.
- 1. Locate the dryer thermistor: Remove the rear panel and find the thermistor mounted on or near the dryer exhaust duct or blower housing.
- 2. Inspect wiring: Ensure the thermistor connector is firmly attached and wires are not pinched or burned.
- 3. Test the thermistor: Disconnect it and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the service manual specification (commonly 10–50 kΩ). A reading of 0 Ω or OL indicates a bad sensor.
- 4. Check mounting: Make sure the thermistor is properly clipped to the duct so it senses exhaust temperature correctly.
- 5. Replace if faulty: Install a Magic Chef-compatible thermistor, reconnect wiring, and reassemble the rear panel.
- 6. If E12 persists: The control board's sensor circuit may be defective and require replacement.
