Possible Causes
Dirty or coated moisture sensor bars, Broken moisture sensor wiring, Failed moisture sensor, Control board misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal wiring. Cleaning the sensor bars can be done with power off and door open.
- 1. Locate moisture sensor bars: Inside the drum, usually near the front, look for two metal strips that detect moisture.
- 2. Clean sensor bars: Use a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol to remove any film from dryer sheets or fabric softener. Do not use abrasive pads that can scratch the bars.
- 3. Inspect wiring: From the rear or lower front panel, trace the wires from the sensor bars to the harness. Ensure connectors are secure and wires are intact.
- 4. Test sensor continuity: With wires disconnected, measure resistance across the sensor terminals while placing a damp cloth across the bars. Resistance should change compared to dry condition.
- 5. Replace faulty sensor assembly: If the sensor does not respond, install a new moisture sensor kit compatible with your Magic Chef model.
- 6. If E19 remains: The control board's sensor circuit may be defective and require replacement.
