Possible Causes
Defective door lock assembly, Misaligned door latch, Broken door strike, Loose or damaged wiring to door lock
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing any panels. Do not force the door closed with tools.
- 1. Inspect the door strike: Check the plastic or metal strike on the door for cracks or missing pieces. If damaged, replace the strike.
- 2. Check door alignment: Ensure the door closes squarely and engages the lock opening. Tighten hinge screws if the door is sagging.
- 3. Access the door lock assembly: Remove the front panel or door gasket clamp (depending on model) to reach the door lock on the cabinet front. Inspect for burn marks, broken plastic, or loose connectors.
- 4. Test the door lock: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the lock and test its terminals for continuity according to the wiring diagram. A lock that does not change state when actuated is faulty.
- 5. Replace the door lock assembly: Install a Magic Chef-compatible door lock assembly, reconnect wiring, and reassemble the front or gasket. Do not overtighten screws into plastic.
- 6. Run a test cycle: Plug in the unit and start a short wash to confirm the door locks and E4 is cleared.
