Possible Causes
Failed wash heater element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose heater wiring, Faulty main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and shut off water supply. Heating components can retain residual voltage; verify with a meter before touching.
- 1. Confirm the symptom: Run a hot wash cycle and feel the door glass after 15–20 minutes (carefully). If it remains cold and E5 appears, proceed with checks.
- 2. Access the heater: Remove the rear panel to locate the tub-mounted heater element (usually at the bottom of the outer tub). Inspect for burned terminals or damaged wiring.
- 3. Test heater element: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the terminals with a multimeter. A reading of open circuit (OL) indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
- 4. Check NTC temperature sensor: The NTC is often mounted near the heater. Disconnect it and measure resistance; compare to the service manual chart (typically 10–20 kΩ at room temperature). Infinite or zero ohms indicates failure.
- 5. Inspect wiring and connectors: Ensure all heater and sensor connectors are tight and free of corrosion or heat damage.
- 6. If heater and NTC test good: The main control board heater relay may be defective. This usually requires board repair or replacement by a qualified technician.
