Possible Causes
Door not fully closed or faulty door switch, Child lock enabled, Defective Start button on UI, Control board start relay failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the door lock or control panel.
- 1. Check display for child lock: Many Magic Chef models show a lock icon when child lock is active. Disable it per the user manual (often by holding specific buttons for several seconds).
- 2. Verify door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Listen for the click of the latch engaging. Inspect the door strike for damage.
- 3. Test door lock: If the door icon does not show as locked when starting a cycle, the door lock assembly may be faulty. Replace if it does not engage.
- 4. Inspect Start button: If other buttons respond but Start does not, the keypad or Start switch on the UI board may be defective and require replacement.
- 5. Control board check: If the door lock works and Start button is functional but the motor and valves never energize, the main control board start relay may have failed and will need replacement.
