Possible Causes

Clogged drain pump filter, blocked drain hose, failed drain pump motor, obstruction in tub-to-pump hose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and turn off water supply. Expect water spillage when opening hoses.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Inspect drain hose: Pull the combo away from the wall. Check that the drain hose is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe (should be about 6–8 inches). Straighten any kinks.
  • 2. Clean pump filter (if accessible): On many Maytag combo units, the drain pump is accessed from the front lower panel or rear. Remove the access panel, place a shallow pan and towels under the pump, then slowly unscrew the pump clean-out cap. Remove lint, coins, buttons, and debris. Reinstall cap securely.
  • 3. Check tub-to-pump hose: Squeeze the black rubber hose between tub and pump. If it feels blocked, remove the hose clamps and clear any socks or debris. Reattach securely.
  • 4. Test drain pump: With the unit unplugged, spin the pump impeller with your finger; it should turn freely. If it is seized, noisy, or loose on the shaft, the pump must be replaced.
  • 5. Run a drain/spin test: Reassemble panels, plug in, and run a drain/spin cycle. If F02 returns and water drains slowly or not at all, replace the drain pump with the correct Maytag part.

Note: Never run the unit with the pump partially disassembled; leaks and electrical hazards may result.
