Possible Causes

Worn carbon brushes on Miele motor (if brush motor), Defective motor tachogenerator, Open motor winding, Faulty motor control triac or relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. The drum and motor can move unexpectedly; keep hands clear when testing.

  • Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly without grinding or binding.
  • Access motor: Remove the rear panel to access the drive motor under the tub. Inspect the drive belt for breakage or slipping.
  • Inspect brushes (if fitted): On brush-type motors, remove the brush holders and check brush length. Replace if worn below manufacturer limits.
  • Check tachogenerator: Ensure the tachogenerator on the motor shaft is firmly attached and its wiring is intact.
  • Advanced testing: Measure motor winding resistance and insulation. If the motor is defective, replace it with the correct Miele motor assembly. If the motor tests good, the control board's motor drive circuit may be faulty and requires professional repair.
