Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow any hot water to cool before working near the tub or heater.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Access the heater: On many Monogram combos, the wash heater is mounted in the lower rear of the outer tub. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals and mounting bracket.
- 2. Inspect wiring: Check for burned connectors, loose terminals, or damaged insulation at the heater and thermostat/NTC sensor. Repair or replace any damaged wiring.
- 3. Test the heating element: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals with a multimeter. A typical reading is between 10–30 ohms (consult service data). Infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
- 4. Check thermostats/NTC sensor: If there is a separate high-limit thermostat or NTC sensor on the heater or tub, test for continuity (thermostat) or appropriate resistance (NTC) at room temperature. Replace if open or out of specification.
- 5. Inspect control board connections: Remove the top/control panel and verify the heater circuit connector is fully seated on the main control board. Look for signs of overheating at the heater relay.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: Install a new OEM Monogram tub heating element and/or NTC sensor as needed. Ensure the heater gasket is properly seated to prevent leaks.
- 7. Test operation: Reassemble panels, restore power, and run a hot wash cycle. After several minutes, carefully feel the door glass for warmth and confirm E05 is cleared.
When to call a technician: If the heater and sensors test good, the main control board may not be energizing the heater and should be professionally diagnosed.
