Possible Causes
Dirty or coated moisture sensor bars, Broken or disconnected moisture sensor wiring, Failed moisture sensor, Control board sensor circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal wiring. Cleaning the sensor bars can be done with power off and door open.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Clean moisture sensor bars: Inside the drum, locate the metal moisture sensor bars (usually near the front). Wipe them thoroughly with a cloth dampened with white vinegar or mild detergent to remove fabric softener residue.
- 2. Inspect for physical damage: Ensure the sensor bars are not bent or broken and that mounting screws are tight.
- 3. Check wiring connections: Access the backside of the sensor assembly from the front lower panel or side panel. Verify the sensor wires are securely connected and not broken.
- 4. Test the sensor: Use a multimeter to check continuity across the sensor terminals while bridging the bars with a damp cloth. The reading should change when the bars are bridged. Replace the OEM Monogram moisture sensor if it does not respond.
- 5. Reset and test: After cleaning and any repairs, restore power and run a sensor-dry cycle with a small load to confirm E12 is cleared and auto-dry works correctly.
When to call a technician: If the sensor and wiring are good but E12 persists, the main control board's sensor circuit may be faulty and require professional replacement.
