Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Faulty drain pump motor, Blocked sump hose between tub and pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and keep towels or a shallow tray ready; water will spill when opening the filter.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Access the pump filter: Open the lower front access flap. Place a tray and towels underneath. Slowly unscrew the pump filter cap to let water drain out in a controlled way.
- 2. Clean the filter: Remove coins, lint, buttons, and other debris from the filter and pump cavity. Check that the pump impeller spins freely and is not jammed.
- 3. Check the drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks or crushing. Detach it from the standpipe or sink trap and blow through it to confirm it is clear. Clean the sink trap if connected there.
- 4. Inspect sump hose: Remove the rear or bottom panel (depending on model) and locate the large black sump hose from the drum to the pump. Clamp or pinch it, then remove the clips and check for socks or other obstructions. Refit securely with clamps.
- 5. Test the drain pump: With the machine unplugged, disconnect the pump wiring connector and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. If open circuit or very high resistance, replace the drain pump. Also check for signs of overheating or leaks around the pump body.
- 6. Wiring and PCB: If the pump tests good and is not receiving power during drain, inspect the wiring harness to the PCB. If wiring is intact, the PCB output may be faulty and require professional replacement.
