Possible Causes
Worn carbon brushes on universal motor, Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose or broken drive belt, Faulty motor control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. The drum and motor can move suddenly; keep hands clear when testing with power applied later.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand from the front. It should turn smoothly without grinding or binding. If seized, investigate bearings or foreign objects before testing the motor.
- 2. Inspect the drive belt: Remove the rear panel. Confirm the belt is correctly seated on the motor pulley and drum pulley. If the belt is off, frayed, or snapped, replace it and check for underlying causes (overloading, seized drum).
- 3. Check motor brushes (if fitted): On Montpellier models with a brushed universal motor, remove the motor and inspect the carbon brushes. If they are shorter than about 1 cm or unevenly worn, replace both brushes with the correct Montpellier-compatible set.
- 4. Test tachometer coil: At the rear of the motor, locate the tachometer sensor. Measure its resistance (typically 100–200 Ω). If open circuit or physically damaged, replace the motor or tachometer assembly (depending on design).
- 5. Wiring harness: Inspect the motor connector and wiring back to the PCB for burns, loose pins, or broken wires. Repair as needed.
- 6. PCB motor drive: If motor, belt, and wiring are good but the motor does not receive power or E07 persists, the motor drive circuit on the PCB (triac or inverter) may be faulty. This usually requires PCB replacement by a technician.
