Possible Causes
Frequent low-temperature washes, Residual detergent and softener in door seal, Blocked drain causing stagnant water, Dirty detergent drawer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before cleaning internal parts. Use gloves when handling mould cleaners.
Step-by-step cleaning:
- 1. Door seal cleaning: Pull back the folds of the door gasket and wipe thoroughly with a cloth soaked in a mild bleach solution or dedicated washing machine cleaner. Remove all visible mould and residue.
- 2. Detergent drawer: Remove the drawer and soak in hot soapy water. Scrub away black deposits. Clean the housing with an old toothbrush.
- 3. Service wash: Run an empty 90°C cotton cycle with a machine cleaner or a cup of white vinegar (check Montpellier guidance) to kill bacteria and flush the system.
- 4. Improve habits: Leave the door and drawer slightly open between uses to allow drying. Use the correct amount of HE detergent and run an occasional hot wash.
