Possible Causes

Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Faulty drain pump motor, Foreign object lodged in sump hose between tub and pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance and keep a shallow tray and towels ready; water will spill when opening the filter.

  • Access the pump filter: On most Rangemaster washer-dryer combos, the pump filter is behind a small access flap at the lower front. Open the flap.
  • Drain residual water: If a small drain tube is present, pull it out, remove the cap, and drain into a tray. If not, slowly loosen the filter cap to control the water flow.
  • Clean the filter: Fully remove the filter and clear out coins, lint, buttons, and debris. Check inside the pump housing for obstructions and carefully rotate the impeller to ensure it moves freely.
  • Check drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose at the back for kinks or crushing. Remove the hose from the standpipe or sink trap and check for blockages. Flush with water if needed.
  • Inspect sump hose: If drainage is still poor, access the sump hose between the drum and pump (usually from the front lower panel or rear). Clamp the hose, remove the spring clamp, and check for socks or other items lodged inside. Refit securely.
  • Test the pump: With the machine reassembled and plugged in, run a drain/spin cycle. If you hear no pump noise or only a humming sound and no water movement, the pump motor may be defective and should be replaced.
  • Electrical checks (advanced): With power disconnected, test the pump coil resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit or shorted reading indicates a failed pump. Replace the drain pump assembly.
