Washer-dryer stops during wash with E05; water in drum may be cold or at incorrect temperature

Safety first: Disconnect from mains and allow the machine to cool before accessing internal components.

• Check for obvious symptoms: During a hot wash, feel the door glass after 20–30 minutes (do this only when the machine is running normally and safe). If it remains completely cold, the heater may not be working.
• Access the heater: On many Rangemaster combos, the wash heater is mounted at the rear of the drum and accessed from the back panel. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals at the bottom of the tub.
• Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors or loose spade terminals on the heater and NTC sensor. Reseat or replace damaged connectors.
• Test the element: With a multimeter set to resistance and the wires removed from the heater, measure across the heater terminals. A typical reading is between 20–40 Ω. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
• Test the NTC sensor: Measure the resistance of the NTC sensor at room temperature (often 20–30 kΩ, but check Rangemaster data if available). If it reads open, shorted, or wildly off-spec, replace the sensor.
• Control board check: If heater and sensor test good, the PCB heater relay or triac may be faulty. Visual inspection may show scorching. PCB replacement is a specialist job.
