Possible Causes

Loose or damaged motor tachometer coil, Broken motor wiring harness, Worn carbon brushes (on brushed motors), Faulty main control PCB motor drive circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing rear or bottom panels. Beware of sharp edges.

  • Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should move smoothly without grinding. Very stiff movement may indicate a mechanical issue rather than an electrical one.
  • Access the motor: Remove the rear panel. The drive motor is mounted at the bottom of the tub with a belt connecting to the drum pulley.
  • Inspect wiring and tachometer: Locate the small tachometer coil on the rear of the motor (opposite the pulley). Ensure its connector is firmly seated and wiring is intact. Repair any damaged wires.
  • Check carbon brushes (if fitted): On brushed motors, remove the brush holders and inspect the carbon length. If they are worn down to a few millimetres or uneven, replace both brushes with Rangemaster-compatible parts.
  • Test motor windings (advanced): Use a multimeter to check continuity of the motor windings and tachometer coil. An open circuit indicates a failed component.
  • Control PCB: If the motor and tachometer test good but E06 persists, the motor drive circuit on the main PCB may be defective. This typically requires board replacement by a professional.
