Possible Causes
Overloaded drum, Seized drum bearings, Shorted motor windings, Faulty motor control on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains before internal checks. Avoid running the machine with obvious grinding or burning smells.
- Reduce load: Remove some laundry and try a smaller load. Overloading can cause excessive current draw and trigger E16.
- Check drum bearings: Spin the drum by hand. If it feels rough, grinds, or has excessive side play, the bearings may be failing and causing overload.
- Inspect motor and belt: Remove the rear panel. Check that the belt is correctly tensioned and not slipping. Inspect the motor for signs of overheating or burning.
- Electrical tests (advanced): With the motor disconnected, measure winding resistance. A significantly low reading or visible burn marks indicate a shorted motor that must be replaced.
- PCB motor drive: If the motor and bearings are sound but E16 persists, the motor drive circuitry on the PCB may be misreading current or shorted. PCB replacement is likely required.
