Possible Causes
Drive belt slipping on pulley, Foreign object trapped between drum and tub, Overheating motor, Lint build-up on dryer heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately stop the machine, unplug it, and do not continue using it until the cause is identified. Risk of fire exists.
- Check drum for obstructions: Rotate the drum by hand. If it is stiff or scraping, inspect for trapped items at the door seal or between drum and tub.
- Inspect belt and pulleys: Remove the rear panel and check for rubber dust or a shiny, glazed belt. Replace a slipping or damaged belt.
- Dryer heater cleaning: If the smell occurs only in drying, clean lint from the heater housing and ducts as described in E08/E12.
- Motor inspection: If the motor smells burnt or is extremely hot, discontinue use and have it tested/replaced by a technician.
