Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump causing high current draw, Drum jammed by foreign object, Shorted motor windings, Faulty motor control circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance immediately if you smell burning or hear unusual noises.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the drain pump filter for coins, screws, or other objects that could jam the pump. Remove any debris.
- Spin drum by hand: With the unit unplugged, open the door and rotate the drum. If it is hard to turn or makes grinding noises, there may be a foreign object between the drum and tub or a bearing issue.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the rear panel and check motor and pump wiring for melted insulation or burnt connectors.
- When to replace parts: If the pump is jammed or overheated, replace the drain pump assembly. If the motor windings are shorted or the motor overheats quickly, replace the drive motor. Persistent E17 with good components may indicate a bad main control board.
