Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening filters or hoses; keep towels and a shallow pan ready.

• Access and clean the drain filter: On most RCA washer-dryer combos, the drain pump filter is behind a small lower front access panel. Open the panel, place a shallow pan under the cap, and slowly unscrew the filter cap to let water drain. Remove lint, coins, and debris from the filter and pump cavity.
• Check the drain hose: Inspect the rear drain hose for kinks, crushing, or clogs. Detach the hose from the standpipe or sink and run water through it with a garden hose or under a faucet to confirm it is clear.
• Inspect pump impeller: With the filter removed, look inside the pump housing. Spin the impeller with your finger; it should turn freely and not be broken or jammed. Remove any foreign objects.
• Test a drain cycle: Reinstall the filter, reconnect the hose, plug in the unit, and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump motor. If it hums but does not move water, the impeller may be stripped or the pump is weak.
• Electrical checks (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the rear or bottom panel to access the pump. Check the wiring harness for burns or loose connectors. A technician can test pump coil resistance with a multimeter.
• When to replace parts: If the filter and hose are clear and the pump does not run or only hums and E2 persists, replace the drain pump assembly.
