Possible Causes
Defective door lock assembly, Misaligned door latch, Broken or loose door lock wiring harness, Faulty main control board output to lock
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before working around the door lock area to avoid electric shock.
- Check door closure: Ensure no clothing is trapped between the door gasket and door. Firmly close the door until you hear a click.
- Inspect latch and strike: Examine the metal or plastic strike on the door and the latch opening on the cabinet. Look for bending, cracks, or misalignment. Gently adjust the strike plate if it is not entering the latch fully.
- Clean the gasket area: Wipe away detergent residue or debris around the door opening that may prevent full closure.
- Access door lock: Remove the front panel or the door gasket clamp (depending on RCA model) to reach the door lock assembly. Check that the wiring connector is fully seated.
- Test lock operation: With the unit reassembled and plugged in, start a cycle and listen for the lock to engage. If there is no sound and E7 appears, the lock coil or control output may be faulty.
- When to replace parts: Replace the door lock assembly if it is physically damaged or tests open. If a new lock does not receive voltage during lock command, the main control board may need replacement by a technician.
