Possible Causes

Clogged drain pump filter, Blocked drain hose, Foreign object in Samsung drain pump impeller, Faulty drain pump motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening the drain filter; keep towels and a shallow pan ready.

Steps to clear drainage:

  • Access the drain filter: Open the small access panel at the bottom front of the unit. Pull out the emergency drain hose (if equipped), place it in a shallow pan, and remove the cap to drain remaining water.
  • Clean the pump filter: Unscrew the large drain filter cap counterclockwise. Remove lint, coins, buttons, and debris. Check inside the pump cavity for obstructions and gently spin the impeller with your finger to ensure it moves freely.
  • Inspect the drain hose: Check the main drain hose at the back for kinks or clogs. Detach it from the standpipe or sink and flush it with water if necessary.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the filter and close the access panel. Plug the unit back in and run a drain/spin cycle to confirm proper operation.

When to stop: If the pump hums but does not move water, or if 5E/5C returns after cleaning, the drain pump motor may be failing and should be replaced. This usually requires tilting or removing the front panel to access the Samsung drain pump assembly.
