Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Defective drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow tray ready.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Clean the drain pump filter:
- Locate the service flap at the bottom front of the machine.
- Open it and pull out the emergency drain hose (if fitted); drain water into a tray.
- Unscrew the pump filter cap slowly to release remaining water.
- Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris from the filter and pump cavity.
- 2. Inspect the pump impeller:
- Look inside the pump housing and gently turn the impeller with your fingers.
- If it is jammed or very stiff, remove any trapped objects (e.g., bra wires, hairpins).
- If the impeller is loose on the shaft or wobbly, the pump may need replacement.
- 3. Check the drain hose:
- Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the machine.
- Disconnect the hose from the standpipe or sink trap and flush it with water to clear blockages.
- Check the sink trap for clogs if connected there.
- 4. Test the drain pump (advanced):
- Remove the rear or bottom panel to access the pump.
- Inspect wiring and connectors for burns or loose contacts.
- Measure pump coil resistance; if open or shorted, replace the pump.
When to call a technician: If the pump receives power but does not run, or if the control module is not sending power, professional service is advised.
