Washer-dryer will not start a cycle; display shows E01 immediately after pressing Start.

Safety first: Unplug the SMEG washer-dryer combo from the mains and turn off the water supply before any work. Do not bypass the door lock for testing with the machine powered.

• Check door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Ensure no laundry is trapped between the door seal and the door glass. Try starting the cycle again.
• Inspect door latch hook: With power disconnected, examine the metal or plastic latch on the door. If it is bent, cracked, or loose, it may not engage the interlock. Replace the door latch hook if damaged.
• Test door interlock: Remove the front retaining band from the door gasket and gently pull back the seal to access the door lock assembly. Check the wiring connector for burning or loose pins. Reseat the connector. If you have a multimeter and skills, test continuity across the lock terminals when the door is closed (refer to the SMEG service diagram).
• Reset the machine: Reconnect power, wait 1–2 minutes, then try a short cycle. If E01 returns immediately, the door lock assembly is likely faulty.
• Replace door lock assembly: If visual inspection shows heat damage or the lock fails continuity tests, replace the door interlock with a compatible SMEG part. Refit the gasket and retaining band carefully to avoid leaks.
• Call a technician: If a new lock does not clear E01, the main control board (PCB) or wiring harness may be defective and should be checked by a qualified technician.
