Possible Causes
Open or shorted NTC temperature sensor, Loose or corroded NTC wiring connector, Faulty heating element causing sensor error, Defective main control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before working near the heater.
- Access NTC sensor: On most SMEG washer-dryer combos, the NTC is mounted in the heater bracket at the rear or bottom of the tub. Remove the rear panel to access it.
- Inspect wiring: Check the NTC connector for corrosion, loose pins, or damage. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test NTC: Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the NTC terminals at room temperature. Typical values are around 20 kΩ at 20°C (check SMEG service data). If reading is open-circuit or near 0 Ω, replace the NTC sensor.
- Check heater: While there, test the heating element for continuity and insulation to earth. A shorted heater can sometimes trigger sensor-related errors.
- Replace faulty parts: Install a new NTC sensor (and heater if needed), ensuring it is fully seated in the heater pocket with good contact.
- Test cycle: Reassemble panels, reconnect power, and run a 60°C wash to confirm proper heating and that E05 does not reappear.
