Possible Causes

Failed wash heating element, Burned heater wiring or connector, Faulty heater relay on main PCB, Tripped thermal cut-out (if fitted)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the machine to cool before accessing the heater.

  • Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel to locate the wash heating element mounted in the outer tub.
  • Visual inspection: Check for burnt connectors, melted insulation, or signs of arcing at the heater terminals.
  • Test heater: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 20–30 Ω. If open-circuit or shorted to earth, replace the heating element.
  • Check wiring: Trace heater wires back to the control board, ensuring there are no breaks or loose connections.
  • Replace heater: Loosen the central nut, gently push the bolt in to release the gasket, and carefully pull out the heater. Clean the seat and install the new SMEG-compatible heater, tightening the nut evenly to avoid leaks.
  • Professional repair: If the heater and wiring are good, the heater relay or triac on the PCB may be faulty and requires board-level repair or replacement by a technician.
