How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the motor. Beware of sharp edges under the machine.
- Check load and balance: First, ensure the drum is not overloaded or jammed with heavy items. Remove some laundry and retry a spin cycle.
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel. Rotate the drum by hand to confirm it moves freely. Inspect the drive belt for slipping or breakage.
- Inspect brushes (if fitted): On brushed motors, remove the motor and check carbon brushes. If they are worn below ~1 cm, replace both brushes with compatible SMEG parts.
- Check tachometer: Inspect the tachometer coil on the motor shaft for damage or loose connections. Test its resistance with a multimeter (typically a few hundred ohms).
- Check wiring harness: Ensure the motor plug is fully seated and wires are not burnt or broken.
- Test spin: Reassemble and run a spin-only program. If E07 persists, the motor or PCB may need replacement by a professional.
