Possible Causes
Failed dryer heating element, Open thermal fuse or thermostat on dryer circuit, Burned dryer heater wiring, Faulty dryer relay on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before accessing the dryer heater.
- Access dryer heater: On many SMEG combos, the dryer heater is located at the rear or top of the drum in a duct. Remove the top or rear panel as required.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors or discoloured wiring around the dryer heater and thermostats.
- Test heater and thermostats: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the dryer heating element and any inline thermostats or thermal fuses. Replace any open components with SMEG-compatible parts.
- Clean lint paths: Excess lint can cause overheating. Inspect and clean the dryer air duct, fan, and lint passages to ensure good airflow.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing faulty parts, reassemble panels and run a drying cycle to confirm that E09 is cleared and heating is restored.
- Technician required: If all heater components are good, the dryer relay or control board may be defective and should be serviced professionally.
