Possible Causes

Open or shorted dryer NTC sensor, Loose NTC wiring in dryer duct, Overheated and damaged sensor due to blocked airflow, Faulty control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool fully before working on the dryer section.

  • Access dryer duct: Remove the top or rear panel to locate the dryer air duct where the NTC sensor is mounted.
  • Inspect sensor and wiring: Check that the NTC is firmly seated in its holder and that the wiring connector is secure and undamaged.
  • Test NTC: Measure resistance at room temperature with a multimeter. Compare with SMEG specifications. Replace the NTC if it reads open, short, or far out of range.
  • Clean airflow path: Remove lint and dust from the dryer duct, fan, and filters to prevent overheating and future sensor damage.
  • Reassemble and test: After replacing the sensor, run a drying cycle and monitor for correct heating and absence of E11.
