Possible Causes
Corrupted control board firmware, Faulty main PCB, Loose wiring between user interface and main board, Power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains for several minutes before attempting resets.
- Power reset: Unplug the washer-dryer for at least 5–10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge. Plug back in and try to start a simple cycle.
- Check connections: Remove the top panel and inspect the wiring harness between the control board and the user interface/display. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Inspect PCB: Look for obvious burn marks, swollen components, or corrosion on the main PCB. If present, the board will likely need replacement.
- Surge protection: If E14 occurred after a storm or power cut, consider using a surge protector once the machine is repaired.
- Professional repair: Control board replacement or firmware reprogramming should be carried out by an authorised SMEG technician.
