Possible Causes
Detergent residue in door seal folds, Bacteria and mould in drum and tub, Blocked drain causing stagnant water, Infrequent high-temperature washes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use gloves when cleaning mouldy areas.
- Clean door seal: Wipe the gasket folds with a cloth soaked in a mild bleach solution or dedicated washing machine cleaner. Remove lint and residue.
- Run maintenance wash: Run an empty 90°C cycle with a machine cleaner or a cup of white vinegar (check SMEG guidance) to kill bacteria and dissolve residues.
- Clean drawer and filter: Remove and wash the detergent drawer. Clean the drain pump filter to remove trapped debris.
- Ventilation: Leave the door and detergent drawer slightly open between uses to allow the interior to dry.
