Possible Causes
Defective door lock assembly, Loose or damaged door lock wiring harness, Failed main control board (MCU), Door strike misaligned or broken
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Speed Queen combo from power before removing any panels. Do not bypass the door lock for testing with the unit powered.
Step-by-step:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try a new cycle. Sometimes the control will clear a false dL error.
- 2. Inspect the door and strike: Open the door and check the plastic/metal door strike on the door edge. Make sure it is not cracked, loose, or bent. Tighten screws or replace the strike if damaged.
- 3. Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and evenly. Look for obstructions in the door gasket or latch opening. Clean any detergent buildup or debris.
- 4. Access the door lock assembly: Remove the front panel or door boot clamp (depending on model) to access the door lock on the cabinet front. Inspect for burn marks, broken plastic, or loose connectors.
- 5. Test wiring: With power disconnected, check the wiring harness from the door lock to the main control board for pinched, broken, or corroded wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
- 6. Electrical test (for advanced DIYers): Using a multimeter, test the door lock solenoid and switch contacts for continuity according to the Speed Queen tech sheet for your model. If readings are out of spec, replace the door lock assembly.
- 7. Replace door lock: If physical damage or failed continuity is found, install a new OEM Speed Queen door lock assembly, reconnect wiring, reassemble the front/boot, and test a cycle.
- 8. Control board check: If a known-good lock and wiring are in place but dL persists, the main control board may be defective and should be tested/replaced by a qualified technician.
