Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Water may be present in hoses.
Step-by-step checks:
- Locate the NTC sensor: On Whirlpool combos, the NTC is usually mounted in the heater housing or in the outer tub wall near the heater. Remove rear or front panel as required.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the NTC to the main control board for damage, loose connectors, or corrosion. Reseat connectors.
- Test the NTC: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), disconnect the NTC and measure its resistance at room temperature. Typical Whirlpool NTCs read around 20kΩ at 20–25°C (check service manual for exact spec). If reading is open (OL) or near 0Ω, the sensor is faulty.
- Check for shorts: Inspect for moisture or detergent residue on the connector that could cause shorting. Clean and dry as needed.
When to replace: If the NTC reading is out of specification or intermittent when gently wiggled, replace the temperature sensor with the correct Whirlpool OEM part. If the NTC tests good but F03 persists, the main control board may have a defective temperature circuit.
