How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Admiral washer and turn off water supply. Expect water spillage when opening the pump area.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose at the back is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe. Straighten any kinks.
- 2. Access drain pump: On many Admiral front-load models, remove the lower front access panel (3–4 screws along the bottom). Place towels and a shallow pan under the pump.
- 3. Clean pump filter: Unscrew the pump clean-out cap slowly to let water drain into the pan. Remove lint, coins, buttons, and debris from the filter and pump housing.
- 4. Inspect tub-to-pump hose: Squeeze and remove the black rubber hose from the tub to the pump. Check for socks or small garments lodged inside and remove them.
- 5. Test pump impeller: With the filter removed, spin the pump impeller with your finger. It should turn freely and not be broken or wobbly.
- 6. Electrical test (advanced): With the washer unplugged, disconnect the pump wiring connector and check resistance across the pump terminals (typically 10–40 Ω). An open circuit indicates a bad pump.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Reinstall all hoses and the filter cap tightly. Plug the washer back in and run a drain/spin cycle to confirm operation.
When to call a technician: If the pump hums but does not move water, or tests open/shorted, replacement of the drain pump assembly is required.
