Possible Causes
Worn carbon brushes on universal motor, Open motor winding, Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Defective motor control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor or belt.
- 1. Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. If seized or very stiff, suspect bearing or foreign object issues rather than motor electronics.
- 2. Inspect drive belt: Remove the rear panel and verify that the belt is on both the motor pulley and drum pulley. Refit or replace if broken or badly worn.
- 3. Check motor brushes (if fitted): On Amica models with a universal motor, remove the motor and inspect the carbon brushes. If they are shorter than about 1 cm or unevenly worn, replace both brushes with the correct Amica-compatible set.
- 4. Test tachometer and windings: Use a multimeter to measure resistance of the motor windings and the tachometer coil (mounted at the rear of the motor). Compare to service specs. Open or shorted components require motor replacement.
- 5. Inspect wiring and PCB: Check the motor harness for burns or broken conductors. If motor and wiring are good, the main control module's motor drive circuit may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
