Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum bearings, Faulty drive motor, Foreign object jammed between drum and tub
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing panels or reaching inside.
- 1. Check drum by hand: Open the door and rotate the drum. If it spins freely with little resistance, suspect a belt issue. If very stiff or grinding, suspect bearings or a jam.
- 2. Inspect belt: Remove the rear panel and check if the belt is on both pulleys. Refit or replace if broken or loose.
- 3. Look for obstructions: Shine a light through the drum holes to see if a bra wire or similar object is stuck between drum and tub. Remove via heater opening or sump hose if necessary.
- 4. Assess bearings: If the drum is noisy or wobbly and hard to turn, the tub bearings may be failing, requiring tub/bearing replacement.
