Possible Causes
Worn or broken drive belt (on belt-driven Asko models), Faulty motor brushes (on universal motors), Defective motor tachometer sensor, Failed motor control circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing panels. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Step 1 – Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. If it is very stiff or jammed, inspect for foreign objects between drum and tub.
- Step 2 – Inspect drive belt: Remove the rear panel. Check if the belt is off the pulley, frayed, or broken. Refit or replace the belt as needed, ensuring it sits correctly on both the motor and drum pulleys.
- Step 3 – Motor inspection: On models with carbon brushes, remove the motor and inspect the brushes for wear. If they are shorter than manufacturer spec or uneven, replace the motor brushes with Asko-compatible parts.
- Step 4 – Tachometer test: Check the tachometer coil on the motor for secure mounting and intact wiring. Measure resistance across the tach terminals; an open circuit indicates a failed tach sensor.
- Step 5 – Control board: If belt, motor, and tach are good, the motor drive circuit on the main PCB may be faulty. Look for burnt components or damaged solder joints. Replacement of the PCB is usually required.
Due to the complexity of motor control circuits, professional diagnosis is recommended if basic checks do not resolve E06.
