Possible Causes

Door lock mechanism jammed, Broken door handle or latch, Faulty door lock solenoid, Control board not sending unlock signal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open with excessive strength as this can damage the door and lock.

  • Step 1 – Wait for cool-down: If the washer has just finished a hot cycle, wait several minutes; some Asko models delay unlocking until temperature is safe.
  • Step 2 – Manual release: Access the manual door release (often a pull cord or lever near the door lock behind the lower front panel or gasket). Pull gently to open the door.
  • Step 3 – Inspect door lock: Once open and power is off, remove the door lock assembly and check for mechanical damage or obstruction. Replace if the mechanism is stiff or cracked.
  • Step 4 – Electrical test: Test the lock solenoid for continuity. If open, replace the door lock assembly.

If the lock is good but E16 persists, the main PCB may not be energizing the unlock circuit correctly and may require replacement.
