Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Clogged drain pump impeller with coins or debris, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and keep towels or a shallow tray ready for water spillage.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean the pump filter: Open the small access flap at the bottom front of the machine. Place a tray and slowly unscrew the pump filter cap. Allow water to drain. Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris from the filter and pump cavity.
- Check the impeller: With the filter removed, look inside and gently spin the pump impeller with your finger. It should turn freely without grinding or wobbling.
- Inspect the drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush with water.
- Test the pump: If the pump hums but does not turn, or is silent, it may be faulty. Access the pump from the bottom or rear (depending on model), disconnect wiring, and test coil resistance with a multimeter. Replace the pump if open circuit or seized.
After cleaning: Refit the filter securely, ensure no leaks, and run a rinse/spin cycle to confirm proper drainage.
