Possible Causes

Worn carbon brushes (on brush motor models), Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose motor wiring connector, Failed drive motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor or underside.

  • Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly without grinding or binding.
  • Inspect motor connections: Remove the rear panel, locate the drive motor at the bottom of the tub, and check the wiring plug for secure fit and no burning.
  • Check carbon brushes (if fitted): On older Bosch models with brushed motors, remove the motor and inspect the carbon brushes. If they are worn to less than ~1 cm, replace both brushes with Bosch-compatible parts.
  • Test tachometer: The tachometer coil on the motor should show continuity (typically a few hundred ohms). If open, the motor assembly usually needs replacement.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the motor, ensure the drive belt is correctly tensioned, and run a spin cycle to confirm operation.
