Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain pump impeller, Clogged drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer. Have towels and a shallow tray ready; water will spill when opening the filter.
- Clean the pump filter: Open the lower front access flap. Place a tray under the filter cap. Slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain. Remove debris (coins, lint, buttons) from the filter and housing.
- Check the impeller: With the filter removed, reach in and gently turn the pump impeller. It should rotate freely with slight resistance. If jammed or loose on the shaft, the pump may need replacement.
- Inspect the drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush through with water.
- Test the pump electrically: Remove the rear or bottom panel to access the pump. With power disconnected, measure coil resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed pump. Also inspect wiring connectors for burning or corrosion.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the filter securely, ensure no leaks, reconnect power, and run a drain/spin cycle.
If the pump hums but does not move water even when clear, replace the drain pump assembly.
