Possible Causes
Severely unbalanced load, Faulty Fisher & Paykel rotor position sensor (RPS), Loose rotor bolt on SmartDrive motor, Damaged suspension rods or dampers
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor or suspension.
- Rebalance load: Open the lid/door and redistribute clothing evenly around the drum. Remove heavy single items (e.g., one blanket) and wash with similar items.
- Check machine leveling: Ensure the washer is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust the leveling feet and lock them in place.
- Inspect rotor and RPS (SmartDrive): Tilt the washer back to access the motor rotor. Confirm the rotor bolt is tight. Remove the rotor to access the rotor position sensor. Check for moisture, corrosion, or cracked sensor housing. Reseat the RPS connector.
- Suspension check: For top loaders, inspect suspension rods and bushings for wear or breakage. For front loaders, inspect shock absorbers for oil leakage or looseness. Replace worn components.
- Test again: After adjustments, run a spin-only cycle with a small, balanced load.
