Possible Causes

Defective Fisher & Paykel rotor position sensor (RPS), Damaged motor harness wiring, Loose rotor magnet ring, Faulty motor control circuitry on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer and lay it down or tilt it only as recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Access motor area: On SmartDrive top loaders, tilt the machine back to access the motor and rotor under the tub. On front loaders, remove the rear panel.
  • Inspect rotor and magnet ring: Remove the central rotor bolt and pull off the rotor. Check the magnet ring for cracks or separation from the rotor body.
  • Check RPS sensor: The rotor position sensor is mounted on the stator. Inspect for cracks, moisture, or burnt spots. Ensure the connector is fully seated.
  • Test wiring: Follow the harness from the RPS to the control module. Look for pinched, cut, or burnt wires. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Replace RPS if faulty: If visual inspection or resistance tests indicate a bad sensor, install a new Fisher & Paykel rotor position sensor and reassemble.
