Possible Causes
Failed main control board drain pump relay, Loose wiring harness to drain pump, Shorted drain pump causing board damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing internal wiring or the control board.
- Check pump wiring: Remove the lower front or rear panel to access the drain pump. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for burns, corrosion, or loose pins. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the drain pump directly: Disconnect the pump from the harness. Using a multimeter, verify continuity across the pump terminals. If open, replace the pump. If you are qualified and comfortable, you can briefly power the pump with a separate 120V source to confirm it runs (only if you understand electrical safety).
- Inspect main control board: Remove the top panel and locate the main control board (often in a plastic housing). Look for burnt spots or damaged traces near the pump relay area.
- Check harness from board to pump: Follow the wiring from the board to the pump, checking for pinched or broken wires. Repair any damaged sections with proper connectors and insulation.
- Replace control board if relay is failed: If the pump tests good and wiring is intact but the board never sends power to the pump, the drain pump relay on the control board is likely failed. Replace the main control board with the correct Frigidaire part number for your model.
- Reassemble and test: After replacement, reassemble all panels, plug in, and run a rinse and drain cycle to confirm normal operation and that E23 is cleared.
