Washer door will not unlock at end of cycle; E42 displayed

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open with excessive pressure, as this can damage the door and lock.

• Manually release the door: On many Frigidaire models, you can access a manual release tab by removing the lower front panel or pulling back the door boot near the lock. Pull the tab or lever gently to open the door.
• Inspect latch and strike: Check the plastic door strike for cracks or deformation that could cause binding. Replace if damaged.
• Test door lock assembly: With the front panel or boot pulled back, remove the door lock assembly. Test the lock coil and switch contacts with a multimeter. If the unlock coil is open or the mechanism is physically jammed, replace the lock.
• Check control output: If the lock tests good, the main control board may not be sending the unlock signal. Inspect the board for damage and verify wiring continuity between board and lock.
• Replace faulty component: Install a new door lock assembly or main control board as indicated by testing.
• Final test: Reassemble, plug in, and run a short cycle to confirm the door locks and unlocks properly and that E42 is cleared.
