Possible Causes
Detergent and fabric softener residue on tub and boot, Infrequent hot washes, Door kept closed between cycles, Clogged drain trap retaining dirty water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before cleaning internal parts.
- Run cleaning cycle: Use a washer cleaner tablet or a cup of white vinegar with a hot "Clean Washer" or hottest cycle, with no clothes.
- Clean door boot: Wipe the bellows thoroughly with a cloth soaked in a 1:1 vinegar and water solution. Pull back folds to remove black slime and residue.
- Clean dispenser drawer: Remove the detergent drawer and soak it in hot soapy water. Scrub away buildup and clean the housing cavity.
- Check drain trap/pump: If accessible, clean the drain pump filter or trap of lint and debris that can cause odors.
- Improve ventilation: Leave the door and dispenser drawer slightly open between uses to allow drying and reduce mold growth.
